The Importance of Arts, Culture & The Creative Process
Freedom of expression is more important than ever in a world where a small number of wealthy individuals and corporations control an ever-larger part of the global narrative. This project and its multi-disciplinary approach connect a broad range of creative pursuits and individuals who are committed to the free expression of ideas. These ideals are of major concern to me.

What was the inspiration for your creative work?
An environmental disaster was unfolding as I was working on this painting. It was the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, in March 2024. I had been listening to news reports about the crisis, and it began to subconsciously influence the way I was completing this painting.

Cindy Lommasson was born in Washington state and has lived in the Pacific Northwest ever since. She currently resides in Portland Oregon. Cindy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Portland State University in 1984. Although her work is non-objective, there are occasional references to recognizable subjects, such as arches, windows and doors, or natural elements such as rivers and boats, which reflect her urban environment in its natural surrounding.

The Creative Process is created with kind support from the Jan Michalski Foundation.
